- Initiate pump therapy independently within the hospital diabetes team.
Any health care professional within a Diabetes Care Team (including doctors, nurses or dieticians) who is directly involved in starting patients on Medtronic pump therapy who have:
- Attended a recognised pump course and are familiar with the basics of insulin pump therapy and Medtronic insulin pumps.
- Experience (even if supervised) of starting 1/2 patients on any model of Medtronic MiniMed pump.
It consists of hands-on pump experience and a multiple-choice exam. Reading material is sent in advance and must be read prior to training.
Pumps are available during the exam for reference and an exam score of 80% or greater is required for certification. Exams can be re-taken if necessary. A certificate is issued to successful candidates and is valid for 12 months. After 12 months you will be notified by Medtronic that re-certification is required to maintain CPT status.
